The Time Machine

The box glowed with an other-worldly light and vanished with a bright flash.

Mr Smart was ecstatic. He had just made a major scientific breakthrough by creating a time machine. He would receive fame and fortune just from this one invention. He planned to present it to the television company to get famous.

Mr Smart, unfortunately, had a soft spot for alcohol. He went to the bar and soon became very merry from the drinks that he consumed. He boasted and bragged about the time machine all through the night. Normally, it wouldn't have been a problem. But this bar was criminal central, and the wrong people heard every drunken word he said.

Later that night, the criminals plotted to relieve Mr Smart of his time machine.

The door broke with a crash as the criminals flooded into the house. Their leader bellowed, "search the place!" as the criminals turned for orders. Mr Smart, hearing the noise, crept into the bathroom with his time machine. A criminal wondered what was behind the bathroom door, just as Mr Smart turned the last dial.

The thieves saw a flash of light inside the bathroom. They broke the door down and searched the place.

But there was no-one then.

  1. I do like you using then instead of there in the last sentence. It reinforces the in the future feeling of the writing.
The stories are getting more fun to read.
